I am sure you have heard your stylist ask you, do you want to add a bond builder to your service? And you’re probably thinking… what the hell is a bond builder? In this blog, I go over what a bond builder for hair is and why you should ALWAYS get one!
Now, I know you may be thinking… didn’t you already do a blog for this? Yes, I sure did! But, it was way back in 2019 and I have some new products for you to try out!
Why should you use a bond builder?
By constantly lightening your hair, you can significantly compromise it, especially if it’s not done with care. I know you have seen all those crazy TikTok transformations!

When lightening your hair, the bonds break, which can leave the hair fragile. If you add a bond builder, it can rebuild your broken bonds, therefore you can leave with your hair strong and healthy, rather than split and delicate.
Why you should use Olaplex
According to the Olaplex Website, “These bonds give the hair its structure, strength, and stability. When disulfide bonds are broken, it results in damage. OLAPLEX restores damaged and compromised hair by repairing from the inside out with our patented single ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. Once all the bonds are intact and in alignment, you have healthy, beautiful, shiny, touchable hair”.
What I love about Olaplex is that there are so many different factors that it treats. You can add this treatment to your color or lightener and it will help provide breakage insurance! After, you get an in-salon deep conditioning treatment that gives you so much moisture and shine!

I will wash with Olaplex No. 4 and 5 about once a week, and I absolutely have to use No. 7 Bonding oil and No. 6 Bond Smoother for UV protectant, Heat Protectant, and LOTS of shine!
Why you should use K18!
We are avid fans of K18 here at Rebel Femme. This is also a two-part system, one for at the salon and one for at home. Basically it starts with a K18 Mist, that you use before you do the color service.
According to the K18 Website, the K18 Mist is, “Typically used toward the beginning of the service, the pH level of 7.5-8.0 shifts the cuticle layer open to penetrate hair’s cortex and deliver the K18PEPTIDE™ to damage sites on the molecular level—without weighing hair down”. It helps repair the damage caused by bleach, heat and chemical services.
Once the chemical service is complete, we then let you sit with the K18 Molecular repair mask for only 4 minutes! According to the K18 Website, “This part of the PRO service is a peptide-powered treatment to repair in-salon damage from bleach + color, chemical services, and heat in just 4 minutes. Typically used toward the end of the salon service, the pH level of 5.0–6.0 helps close down the cuticle to seal in the K18PEPTIDE™ for renewed strength + elasticity where it matters”.
Honestly, this stuff is amazing because you can take it home! It has cut down my shower time in half. I leave it in my room and apply it when I get most of the moisture out of my hair with a towel. Remember, DO NOT put any leave-in conditioner, oil, or sprays on your hair before this treatment. It will block the peptide’s ability to go into the deepest parts of your hair!
After you let it sit for 4 minutes, it has done its job and you can apply all of the products you want!

Why you should use b3 Brazilian Bond Builder!
While many think that b3 is used as a bonder, it’s not. It actually fills and supports the bonds of the hair. Think of it as a permanent gloss for the hair! b3 helps elongate and make your color more vibrant. Therefore it is perfect for fashion colors or if you are wanting to restore some shine to your hair.
