In this blog, I talk about why it is a bad idea to heat your hot tools past 365° because it can cause extreme heat damage to hair.

What type of hair extension is best for you?

I know the thought process all too well: the higher the iron, the faster it’ll make my hair pretty! Actually, you could not be more wrong. Did you know that if your hair is heated past 365° it goes into a glass transition phase? In this blog, I talk about why it is a bad idea to heat your hot tools past 365°. It can cause extreme heat damage to hair.

Umm what is a glass transition phase?

Well, according to Mashable.com, “The glass transition phase means the temperature at which a material goes from a hard or brittle state to a malleable or plastic state — so in hair styling, this is the temperature at which your hair can be styled, without damage”.

AKA, if you push your hair past the glass transition phase, it will break off.

You cook your pizza at 450° in the oven… why are you flat ironing your hair at the same temperature?

When you use hair styling tools past 365° it can be damaging on your hair (even more so over 400°). You are essentially melting your hair. This causes extreme heat damage that can only be fixed by a nice haircut.

So don’t rely on a heat protectant to save your hair from heat damage.

Here is a couple of our favorite heat protectants to give you a little extra protection:

Kenra Professional Hot Spray– This spray is a high hold, so it is able to hold up in humid conditions, as well as protect your hair from heat up to 422°!

Olaplex N°.7 Bonding Oil– Olaplex is always a great option for your hair, but this oil is perfect for those who want shine and protection up to 450°.

Moroccanoil Protect and Prevent Spray- This lightweight spray is great for elongating your color as well as a protectant from environmental factors and UV.
