Let’s Talk About It: Crazy Hair Myths

Let’s talk. Don’t believe everything you hear because it may not be true. In this blog, I am going to go over some crazy hair myths!

It’s okay to talk about crazy hair myths! You don’t have to feel bad about thinking these are real, you have probably heard them your whole life. But I am here to expose the truth. In this blog, I’m going over some crazy hair myths!

1. Putting oil on your hair in the summer cooks it!

UMM… no. Oil is very nourishing for your hair and you should definitely not skip out on it. There are actually quite a few oils on the market that have heat protectant in them, so you can hydrate your hair and protect it at the same time. I can see why people would think that, but it is simply not true!

2. Cutting your hair will make it grow faster!

Nope, not true. But don’t cancel your haircut appointment just yet. While trimming your hair does not affect the overall speed of hair growth, it is still important to get frequent haircuts. Why? Because if you do not trim your hair, you can get split ends. Split ends can cause your hair to break, therefore making your hair shorter. If you don’t cut it, your hair will cut itself! In result, your hair will not grow as long because your hair is breaking off.

3. Deep Conditioners are way to time consuming.

I guess this depends on you and your schedule. However, to me, 5-7 minutes is not all that long. Most deep conditioners only require 5-7 minutes on wet or damp hair for you to see results, so why not give it a shot? My favorite is Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask because it totally rejuvenates my hair. And the best part? Once you feel your hair is improving, you can use it less and less!

4. Replace regular shampoo with dry shampoo!

I mean, I am all for skipping a couple of shampoos here and there, but I definitely would not use dry shampoo as a replacement. Even though it is called “shampoo” it does not clean your hair. It absorbs the oil at your scalp so your hair appears clean. I love it on day 3 or 4, but once you excessively use it, you can create build up on your scalp.

I would recommend Kenra Detox and Deflect Scrub to get rid of excess build up.

5. Putting oil or conditioner on a greasy scalp makes your hair greasier.

To be fair, it makes sense. In reality, your scalp is really dry. Therefore, your body is overproducing sebum and making your scalp oily. My suggestion? Moroccanoil Oily Scalp Treatment. This product is designed to help balance and restore your scalp.
